Earn an inCOME through our referral services and beCOME all that you wanted to be. The only outCOME will be a stronger you, and by extension, a stronger community.

With a resilient motivation to build stronger communities by focusing on individual development, the abovementioned represents the heart of the mission of COME Center. Established in January 2012, the COME Center is juxtaposed between the Great Salt Pond and the Fresh Pond at the corners of Longwall Road and Cannegieter Street. Bordered on both sides by significant waterways, its prime location may perhaps bear witness to its drive to ensure that people live meaningful and dignified lives. Just as a river flows and sustains life, the COME Center has purposed to meet the needs of the total man and ensure that lives are not cut short because of failure, violence or poverty.

Adult Education

ABC Program (Acquiring Basic Competencies) of Community Outreach Mentorship & Empowerment (C.O.M.E) Center aims to help alleviate the issue of illiteracy in Sint Maarten. Basic competencies like reading and writing are essential in carrying out day-to-day activities. The founders of the program recognize that majority of the members of the adult population has taken the issue on illiteracy for granted. Most of them were not privileged to finish their studies due to different reasons. Because of the pre-conceived shame that goes with illiteracy, adults/parents tend to keep it as secret just to avoid being looked down or talked about. However, these prevent them from doing what they want (e.g., parents would not attend meetings at school or sometimes even avoid going to church due to the fear of being asked to read or write something; they cannot help their kids with their homework; they hesitate to travel; cannot write to loved ones; apply for a better job; etc.).

ABC Program promotes adult literacy because they believe that it can address some of these issues. Over the years, C.O.M.E Center has witnessed the progress of people who stepped forward and participated in the ABC Program. The commitment of the dedicated participants was to admire for. This only shows a confirmation that there are people in Sint Maarten who had not lost hope but only hunger for education no matter which age group they belong to or status of life they are in. We invite those who want to learn to step forward and join us to combat illiteracy.
